The Louisiana authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Odell Beckham Jr., a star wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns, for simple battery after he appeared to slap the buttocks of a police officer after college football’s national title game on Monday night.
A police official in New Orleans said she had no other details about the warrant, and a court official said a copy of it was not yet available.
The episode, recorded on a video, took place in the locker room of Louisiana State after the university, where Beckham played for three seasons, won the title by beating Clemson. In the video, a police officer is addressing an L.S.U. player when Beckham approaches from behind and appears to strike the officer with his right hand.
Beckham’s agent and the Browns did not immediately return requests for comment on Thursday.
