Jadon Sancho joins Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in illustrious group of footballers to register over 15 goals AND assists in a single season since 2006/07
Make no mistake, Jadon Sancho is the real deal.
His performance against Paderborn at the weekend showed just that.
With an explosive burst of pace and a devastating finish to match, the England winger is proving to the world he may well be football’s next superstar for the next 10 years.
His record this season has been nothing short of remarkable.
After netting the first hat-trick of his professional career, Sancho has now scored 17 goals and added 17 assists in just 27 matches.
That is a remarkable record for a winger who only turned 20 in March.
And his treble over the weekend saw him join an illustrious group of players who have scored and assisted over 15 times in a single season since the 2006/07.
The former Man City academy graduate is proving that he can be a goalscorer as well as a creator, but who are the other stars who have completed the feat?
Find out below…
Lionel Messi (Barcelona, 2010/11, 2011/12, 2014/15, 2015/16)
Anybody shocked by this? Nope, didn’t think so.
Incredibly, Messi has recorded 15+ goals and assists on FOUR separate occasions since 2006, with his latest coming in the 2015/16 season.
The Barcelona icon has been breaking records for years and in February, became the first footballer in history to officially hit the 1,000 mark for combined goals and assists.
Messi is so talented that his passing ability is nearly as his good as his ability to find the net.
He has scored 718 goals in his 16 seasons at Barcelona, with 216 assists recorded on top of that.
Eden Hazard (Lille, 2011/12, 2018/19)
A host of top European clubs started to track the brilliant Belgian after his blistering campaign with Lille in 2011.
He provided 20 goals and 16 assists in Ligue 1 in 2011/12 and rightfully scooped the Player of the Year award before Chelsea signed him for £33million, which now looks like an absolute steal.
The 29-year-old then spent seven years at Stamford Bridge and saved his best campaign until last, scoring 16 goals and registering 15 assists in the 2018/19 Premier League season.
Unfortunately, injury has hampered his progress following his big-money move to Real Madrid but the world is hoping he can get back to his best because he is a joy to watch in full flow.
Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, 2014/15)
At the ripe age of 35, the Juventus star continues to score goals at a devastating rate and he has no plans of hanging up his boots anytime soon.
It was after Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid from Manchester United that he became a true goal-scoring phenomenon.
In 2014/15, he scored a staggering 48 LaLiga goals and also provided 16 assists for his teammates.
In the current Serie A standings, he trails Lazio marksman Ciro Immobile by six goals in the hunt for the Golden Boot.
Luis Suarez (Barcelona, 2015/16)
Many believe Suarez’s best years were at Liverpool but in terms of goals and assists, he reached new heights at Barcelona.
He was the best striker in world during the 2015/16 season, scoring 40 goals and registering 16 assists as the Spanish giants won the title, forming one of the most deadly trios in football history with Messi and Neymar.
Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund, 2019/20)
The England winger made the bold move to leave Pep Guardiola and Man City in 2017 and what a decision that has turned out to be.
Having broken through with a brilliant campaign last season, Sancho has gone up another level this term with 17 goals and 17 assists in just 27 Bundesliga games.
Manchester United and Chelsea are unsurprisingly circling and if he keeps up his form there’s no question he could be a future Ballon d’Or winner.
